Before
attending a club training session I find many people like to watch a
class. It is understandable that people are nervous when faced with
something new. This page will hopefully help prepare a little for what
is in store.
For your first few lessons all you will need are loose clothes; a
t-shirt and jogging bottoms will do just fine.
At the start of each lesson we will say the
Oath of Tae Kwon Do and then the lesson will begin. As a beginner
you will be instructed in correct etiquette and the rules of the club
and then we will warm up.
The warm up period is an exercise session based on aerobics and circuit
to warm up the muscles and improve your cardiovascular fitness. This
will not be overly strenuous for the beginner but as you progress and
your fitness improves the training will get harder.
Once you are warmed up we will stretch. Stretching improves flexibility
and suppleness and is essential for performing the powerful high kicks
for which we are renowned.
During a lesson we
will learn and practice basic techniques (stances, blocks, kicks etc.)
and combinations both solo and with a partner, this may involve the use
of pads and targets as shown on the right of this page. As your
knowledge and ability progresses you will also learn
sparring,
patterns and
breaking.
